Showcase of Holiday Lighting Effects On Beacon Island Lighthouse

HOUSTON (Nov. 30, 2007)– The Verandah Companies soon will transform the Beacon Island Lighthouse on the south shore of Clear Lake in League City into a stage for showcasing special holiday lighting effects.

The Verandah Companies tapped professional theatre and concert talent and technology from Daryl Vaughan and his Light Partners team to create the inaugural light show for the Beacon Island Lighthouse. Vaughan, a British lighting designer and founder of Seabrook-based Light Partners, will equip Beacon Island with a computer-controlled lighting system that will use the white bands of the black and white Beacon Island Lighthouse as a canvas for a multicolored kinetic lightshow. The new Beacon Island Lighthouse display will premier on December 8 at approximately 6 p.m., shortly after fireworks mark the commencement of the 46th Annual Clear Lake Chrisstmas Boat Lane Parade. The nightly display will start at approximately 6 p.m. and glow until about midnight through January 6.

During past holiday seasons, the Beacon Island Lighthouse was adorned with strands of white lights shaped like a Christmas tree. Beacon Island, a 35-acre private island formerly known as Lighthouse Island, was purchased by The Verandah Companies and Crow Holdings Realty Partners IV, L.P. of Dallas in December 2006. Beacon Island is located at the end of Lighthouse Boulevard and is adjacent to the South Shore Harbour Marina in League City. The Beacon Island concept is a gated master-planned community accessible by bridge and modeled in a Southern coastal style. The island will feature homes valued from $300,000 to $3 million or more. The island will be designed in a traditional Southern village style with more than 2.5 miles of walkable trails, sidewalks and a night-lit boardwalk promenade, interconnecting with as many as nine distinct parks featuring social gathering points such as gazebos and fountains. The landmark lighthouse will continue to serve as the focal point and icon of a close-kit village community in the style of the Old South.

“The Verandah Companies is honored to be in a position to provide a special holiday lighting design for the lighthouse at the start of the Christmas Boat Lane Parade. We recognize that many Clear Lake residents have a strong connection with this lighthouse, and we are committed to elevating its stature on Beacon Island even more in the months and years to come,” said Nancy Pointer, a co-founder of The Verandah Companies.

The Beacon Island Lighthouse will appear to be lit from within. The structure will glow with ethereal, animated washes of colored light -- from vibrant, vivid hues of red, green and blue to soft and subtle shades of delicate amber, pastel pink, and pale lavender. The temporary state-of-the-art computer controlled solid state high intensity light emitting diode (LED) lighting system that is being installed on Beacon Island is capable of producing millions of colors at the touch of a button. Verandah plans to enhance this lighting system for the Beacon Island Lighthouse as its Beacon Island resort community progresses.

“Since Light Partners opened its offices in the Clear Lake area of Houston a couple of years ago, we've had the pleasure to work on a wide range of creative lighting projects, both residential and commercial,” said Vaughan. “I've always had my eye on this great-looking landmark and felt we could do something really exciting with it lighting-wise! So when we were approached by Nancy Pointer and her associates at Verandah to do just that, we naturally jumped at the chance. We hope everyone who sees the light show -- boaters, residents or visitors -- will enjoy the spectacle!”
